ECORD MAGELLANPLUS WORKSHOP

Drilling the Tonian-Cryogenian boundary of the Inner Hebrides, Scotland

Summary

The late Tonian and early Cryogenian strata of the Inner Hebrides in Scotland offer a unique window into ‘Snowball Earth’ dynamics with ramifications for the geological timescale. During a 3-day workshop at University College London, UK, on July 14-16th 2024, we will discuss operational and logistical strategies for scientific drilling as well as the collaborative science goals and likely outcomes of a future IODP/ICDP drilling proposal for this region. The workshop will assemble a diverse group of researchers, including early career researchers (ECRs), and work towards the strongest possible drilling proposal.
